The new VeggieTea flavoured with tomato and thyme is a culinary all-rounder
Let“s twist again – it was with this song that Chubby Checker took the charts by storm in 1961. Now the twist is back in fashion again, albeit in a culinary form – combining tomatoes, basil and thyme to make a Mediterranean vegetable tea. Tomato Twist Organic from the alveus® tea workshop is a real all-round talent. In the cup, the most aromatic of all the VeggieTeas develops a flavour of sun-ripened tomatoes with Mediterranean herbs. It is almost like a vegetable stock, but it is wonderfully light as it contains no fat or flavour enhancers. The vegetable and herb infusion is great as a basis for soups or as a calorie-free snack while you“re on a vegetable or fruit detox. But this tea can do more than just twist. Crush the ingredients with a pestle and mortar to get the perfect seasoning for a Bolognese or other Mediterranean style sauces and dishes. There“s only one way to do it: try it out by pouring on hot water or using the seasoning as it is. Sun-dried tomatoes are definitely a great way to get a health boost. This is thanks to the lycopene they contain. This phytochemical found in tomatoes is a carotenoid – a pigment. It is used as an antioxidant by the human body to neutralise free radicals. Many cancer studies show that lycopene has therapeutic uses. Your body can make even more of the lycopene if you add small amounts of good oils to the tomatoes. The aromatic tulsi plant is also an ingredient in Tomato Twist. This aromatic plant, which is also known as holy basil, is used as a tea or oil for healing purposes in Hinduism and Ayurveda. It gives a real kick to the tomato in our infusion, with a slightly lemony tang. Especially if you are feeling stressed, the tulsi plant is thought to help you achieve more balance in both body and mind.
