e-Spirit Announces Major New Version of FirstSpirit Content Management System

Latest release of content integration platform, FirstSpirit 5, delivers consistent user experience across multiple channels, further improves usability

BOSTON-October 10, 2012-Content management provider e-Spirit Inc. (www.e-Spirit.com) today announced the release of FirstSpirit 5, a major new version of its content management system. The new version simplifies creation and publication of content across multiple output channels, delivers new user experience improvements and supports more efficient design of internal content management processes.

In the age of the customer, companies are struggling to blend siloed legacy systems with mountains of content and deliver a seamless customer experience across Web, mobile, print and social channels, and to support international requirements. FirstSpirit 5 offers a way out. It is the first CMS designed to support a best-of-breed approach rather than rip and replace. It allows companies to orchestrate multiple legacy systems and address target groups consistently across diverse channels.

„FirstSpirit 5 is designed for companies that want to protect investments and improve customer experiences, whether on the international company website, the corporation-wide employee portal, the online store, on mobile devices or social networks,“ said Robert Bredlau, COO North America for e-Spirit. „As a content integration platform, FirstSpirit 5 promotes content re-use across channels while making internal systems easier to use for content authors and administrators alike.“

FirstSpirit 5 offers out-of-the-box integration with SAP NetWeaver, Microsoft SharePoint, Liferay, IBM WebSphere Portal and Commerce as well as integration capability with additional e-commerce solutions including Intershop, Oracle ATG and a number of other third-party offerings. The FirstSpirit AppCenter allows integration of online marketing tools and external Web and cloud applications directly into the CMS.

User-friendly work environments

With its latest release, e-Spirit continues to improve usability for content editors. User-friendly work environments assist editors by providing intuitive, time-saving processes that reduce the steps involved with completing tasks. This makes content maintenance less of a burden and contributes to improved content management practices.

Depending on their role in an organization, content editors often have very different demands of a CMS. To meet the various requirements, FirstSpirit 5 features an improved two-client strategy. The WebClient offers a work environment optimized to the needs of occasional users while the JavaClient is tailored to the needs of power editors.

The HTML5-based WebClient in FirstSpirit 5 has been completely renewed to support faster content processing. The user surface of the new WebClient, also called WebEdit 5, offers more intuitive, self-guided operation along with a number of timesaving operating mechanisms. These include, for example, extensive drag & drop support for quick uploading or moving of elements.

For more complex tasks, the JavaClient offers enhanced user-friendliness and integration capability. The JavaClient is the central editing surface for „power users“ who not only create content but also access content and applications from diverse integrated source systems for use across multiple channels and projects.

Dynamic content

With FirstSpirit 5, e-Spirit introduces a new infrastructure for supporting highly dynamic websites. A new module called UX-Bridge enables simple live updates of content directly onto a website, allowing FirstSpirit 5 to act as a live integration platform. For example it can be used to integrate dynamic social media solutions, content targeting or user generated content.

Through the simple dynamic output of attractive and personalized content, UX-Bridge gives companies the ability to create customized online experiences that lead to higher sales in online stores or contribute to more engaging experiences for website visitors.

SEO, search and organization enhancements

With FirstSpirit 5, editors can influence URL results to provide better online exposure (SEO-URLs) and to create multi-lingual or catchy (short) URLs for landing pages and other destinations. Another enhancement is dynamic forms that perform automatic plausibility checks when content is entered. This allows the system to recognize when invalid content formats are entered, for example, or individual entry fields are only faded in or out when certain logical relationships exist or conditions are fulfilled.

Integrated full-text search has been expanded in FirstSpirit 5 to include an auto-completion function and to offer extensive filter/sorting options (facet search). Non-textual search is also new: objects (media, paragraphs) can be pulled into the search using drag & drop to show where they are used in the project. Further, search results can be moved directly from a search dialogue and dropped in entry components.

To facilitate organization and reuse of content, editors can set up individual work areas. Features like structured bookmark files, master copies and a clipboard function for the simple reuse of both FirstSpirit 5 objects as well as data from the local workplace computer help to speed up and simplify the setup and updating of content pages.
