IT Security most important technology trend 2018 in Germany

Bitkom survey among ITC companies shows top technology and market trends of the year. Cloud Computing and Internet of Things take positions two and three. Germany remains exciting and developing market to invest in.

IT Security most important technology trend 2018 in Germany

Top 10 High Tech Trends 2018

Villingen-Schwenningen (D), March 30th 2018 – For digital companies, IT security remains the most relevant topic of the German ITC market in 2018. That is the result of a current survey by the German high-tech association Bitkom. Two thirds of the companies questioned (67 percent) name IT security as the most important trend.

„More and more devices are digitally connected, that makes them interesting targets for cyber criminals“, states Achim Berg, president of Bitkom. „That“s why IT security is gaining significantly in importance, especially in areas such as energy, traffic or medicine.“
„Another engine for the lasting importance of IT security is the implementation of the EU-GDPR that concerns basically all companies in Germany“, adds Bernd Hoeck, expert for IT security with a profound knowledge of the German ITC market.

The second position of Bitkom“s list occupies the topic Cloud Computing. 61 percent of the companies questioned think that this is another important trend that will have a definitive impact on the German ITC market in 2018. „The cloud has more than arrived here in Germany“, comments Hoeck. „This development shows that the investments of providers in datacenter in Germany and the EU pay off.“

The buzz words Internet of things (48 percent) and Industry 4.0 (47 percent) follow on positions four and five. No surprise since those topics have their home turf in the highly-automated industry. If it“s not working here in Germany, then where?

The positioning of Big Data (43 percent) and Cognitive Computing (26 percent) or Artificial Intelligence in the ranking strengthen the profile of AI in Germany. In the year before, only every fifth company named AI as a relevant trend for the market. In 2018 it is already every fourth company. „Artificial Intelligence is a key technology with the potential to improve our everyday life and change our economy“, confirms Bitkom president Berg. To round off the top ten, the other trends and topics of importance for the German ITC market are Digital Platforms (mentioned by 33 percent), Blockchain (26 percent) – which made it to the list for the first time, Enterprise Content Management (25 percent) and Mobile Apps and Mobile Websites (24 percent).

„The results are based on a survey among ITC companies. The priorities might differ a bit among customers, but in general the tendency corresponds with our experiences“, concludes market expert Hoeck. „Especially IT security is a topic no company can close its eyes to. With the GDPR entering in force in May, companies must invest in IT security if they don“t want to break the law. Internet of Things, Industry 4.0 and Artificial Intelligence are other fields of interest of the rapidly developing German market that is open for innovations and exciting offers.“

German market for apps is still growing

1.5 bn Euros mark has been broken for the first time in 2017 and according to Bitkom the boom still continues. Go-to-market experts recommend smart entry to the German app and software market.

German market for apps is still growing

German app market is still on the rise.

Villingen-Schwenningen (D), January 31st 2018 – The German market for apps for smartphones and tablets keeps growing and just broke the 1.5 billion Euros mark in 2017. This reports the German high-tech association Bitkom in a recent press release. Based on numbers of the research institute research2guidance, this means almost a tripling compared to the year 2013, when sales were 547 million Euros. Compared with the year 2016, it is a plus of 4 percent.

„The boom continues“, states Achim Berg, president of Bitkom. „With wearables like smartwatches and fitness trackers the ecosystem around apps yet expands significantly.“ In 2017, 1.8 bn apps have been downloaded from the two biggest stores: two thirds accounted to Google“s Play Store, one third accounted to Apple“s App Store. Most of the sales (1.2 bn Euros, 79 percent) were made through in-app features such as the expansion of games, 232 mn Euros (15 percent) through advertisement and 91 mn Euros (6 percent) directly through the purchase price of the app.

The most popular according to Bitkom are apps for social networks, messengers, streaming services and games. On the rise are everyday helpers such as radar apps or apps warning against severe weather as well as fitness and health apps tracking steps or recording travelled distances.

„Germany is a very exciting market for apps and other software products with many many technically oriented customers“, says Bernd Hoeck, founder of bloodsugarmagic and go-to-market expert. „However, 1.8 bn app downloads sound impressive, but you need to relate that to approx. 5 mn apps available in the Google Play and Apple Store. Thus, there are many apps competing for visibility and customer recognition. Vendors need to create a dedicated market entry strategy focusing clearly on the targeted customer segments.“

German ITC market remains on a growth path

Bitkom expects a total turnover of 160 billion Euro in 2016 for the ITC market. The lack of professional employees remains a problem of the industry. bloodsugarmagic offers its services and a webcast to help foreign companies entering the market.

German ITC market remains on a growth path

German IT market is further on the rise.

Villingen-Schwenningen (D), March 30th 2016 – Based on a recent prognosis by German high-tech association Bitkom, the annual turnover of the German IT market for the first time ever is expected to break the 160 billion Euro limit in 2016. According to the prognosis, the industry as a whole will grow by 1.7 percent, with software sales being the strongest driver with more than 6 percent.

The software segment is expected to grow in 2016 with a plus of 6.2 percent to 21.5 billion Euros. IT services will climb by 2.7 percent to 38.2 billion Euro while sales with hardware according to Bitkom will rise only slightly by 0.8 percent to 23.8 billion Euro. In general, the branch information technology will generate 83.5 billion Euro – a plus of 3 percent.

„The software houses profit from the trend that the whole economy is moving towards digital business models“, says Thorsten Dirks, president of Bitkom.

Bitkom states that the general ITC market, which besides information technology also consists of telecommunication and consumer electronics, has grown much stronger in the past year than originally expected. Instead of the estimated plus of 1.9 percent, sales have risen by 2.8 percent in 2015 to 157.4 billion Euro. The reason for that lies in the smartphone boom of the second half of the year: the turnover with the devices has grown by 22.1 percent to 10.3 billion Euro. That is almost three times as much as originally expected.

The good situation on the market also leads to the creation of more jobs. Bitkom estimates that there will be about 20,000 more jobs by the end of 2016. „With 1.022 billion employees the Bitkom branch establishes its position as second biggest industrial employer, just behind mechanical engineering but considerably ahead of other leading industries such as automotive or the chemical industry“, says Dirks.

On the other hand, the industry is still having problems filling all those vacancies. According to Bitkom, there are still 43,000 open and hard to fill vacancies for IT experts. Dirks therefore warns: „Without the immigration of foreign specialists, without foreign students, without the international exchange, we can“t successfully shape the digital transformation.“

„Germany remains a strong growing and very exciting IT market“, declares Bernd Hoeck, founder of bloodsugarmagic and go-to-market expert. „Especially the combination of a growing market and a massive lack of IT experts creates the perfect opportunity for foreign companies for cooperation and entering this new, promising market.“

Bitkom raises growth forecast for German IT market

German IT market is further on the rise and one of the most exciting markets in Europe. Foreign companies specialized in IT security and on IoT platforms can profit from this positive trend when they enter the market now.

Bitkom raises growth forecast for German IT market

Villingen-Schwenningen (D), November 4th 2015 – The German ICT market is further on the rise – especially in the segment software. In its recently published economic forecast German high-tech association Bitkom even declared the rise of its growth forecast by 0.4 percent to 1.9 percent. That means a turnover of 156 billion Euros for the whole market in 2015.

Between the various sectors of the branch though, there are significant differences. Sales with end-user devises such as smartphones (+5.5 percent) and with software (+5.4 percent) are on top of the scale while sales with telecommunication services (-0.3 percent) and consumer electronics (-3.8 percent) are declining.

Most important growth driver of the industry remains the field of information technology, which builds from software, hardware and IT services. According to the Bitkom forecast, sales here will reach 80.4 billion Euros in 2015. That“s a plus of 3.5 percent. From an already high level, the sector software is growing the most with a plus of 5.4 percent to 20.1 billion Euros. The business with IT services has also grown steadily within the past years and is now about to reach a turnover of 37.3 billion Euros, which relates to an increase of 3 percent.

Also, Bitkom declared that for the first time ever, the German ICT branch is employing more than one million people. That means, that in the past five years about 135.000 new jobs have been created. Again, the companies belonging to the sector information technology employ the most people (794.000) and grow the strongest.

„The providers are profiting from the fact that companies of all branches are adjusting their business towards digitalization because of the general trend of the digital transformation of the economy“, says Dr. Bernhard Rohleder, managing director at Bitkom. „We see a closer networking in industrial production and a downright digital boom in the automotive sector. Industry 4.0 and intelligent mobility stimulate the demand for semiconductors.“ Besides the growing demand for servers, the strong sales increase of semiconductors leads to a general increase of sales in IT hardware to 23 billion Euros.

„Already today cars are high-performance computers. They will be networked data centers in the future. The market figures reflect this trend“, Rohleder continues.

Bernd Hoeck, managing director of the go-to-market think-tank bloodsugarmagic, agrees with Rohleder and declares: „Germany is one of the most exciting markets in Europe. All essential standards and concepts for industry 4.0 and the smart factory will need to be established here because most of the leading providers of the mechanical engineering sector are situated in Germany. The Internet of things remains one of the most important technology and market trends here.“

Especially for providers of IT security solutions or IoT platforms this is a great chance and an entry into the German ICT market really a must. bloodsugarmagic has a long standing expertise and experience in go-to-market strategies and knows how to successfully gain a foothold in the German market. ECM remains hot topic in Germany

Companies see ECM solutions for mobile devices and digital files as top trends of the branch. Only 4 out of 10 enterprises use ECM company-wide. This is a huge opportunity for new vendors, says bloodsugarmagic.

ECM remains hot topic in Germany

Most companies use ECM not as a company wide strategy but for single departments.

Villingen-Schwenningen (D), April 28th 2015 – The market for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions is still growing strongly. This is the result of a recent survey by the German high-tech association BITKOM. According to that study, there will be an approximate turnover of 1.8 billion Euros with hardware, software and services relating to ECM in Germany in 2015. That“s an increase of about 6 percent in comparison to the previous year.

„The amount of information that reaches the companies is permanently growing. ECM solutions make this flood of information controllable“, says Bernhard Zöller, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Managing Directors of the ECM competence center at BITKOM. „The digitalization of business processes in enterprises is mandatory for the digitalization of the economy.“

The BITKOM survey also provides information about the most important trends of the branch in 2015 based on topics mentioned by vendors. According to that, the most relevant topic in ECM solutions is support for mobile devices such as smartphones or tablet computers. 40 percent of the ECM companies questioned find this topic important and move towards this feature. Mobile use of ECM becomes more and more a commodity feature – at least, if you ask the vendors. If more and more (non-windows) tablets replace traditional laptops, there is a growing demand for ECM support for these devices.

Slightly less (37 percent) name digital files, such as the electronic personnel file or a customer record, as top trends. Other relevant topics are tools for the cooperation in teams and electronic invoice processing (26 percent each).

However, there still is a huge potential for growth. Most companies use ECM not as a company wide strategy but for single departments. Just 4 out of 10 use it company wide. This leaves room for improvement. For new vendors this is a huge opportunity to rip and replace legacy ECM systems used just by one or two departments. In addition to growing within existing customers there are many potential customers that have not yet selected ECM technologies.

„ECM is still a huge market in Germany“, says Bernd Hoeck, Managing Partner of the go-to-market specialist bloodsugarmagic. „We see quite some movement in the market. While some traditional vendors are struggling to keep up with customer demands, new vendors are bringing in fresh approaches. We see new local and foreign ECM vendors entering the DACH market.“

German IT companies optimistic just before CeBIT

IT service providers and software vendors are especially confident. 85 percent of ICT companies are expecting rising sales in 2015. Even more are happy with the domestic demand.

German IT companies optimistic just before CeBIT

Villingen-Schwenningen (D), Februar 12, 2015 – Just before the CeBIT 2015, the mood among enterprises in the IT industry is very good and confident. This is the result of the recent survey of the German high-tech association BITKOM.

85 percent of the companies questioned are expecting rising sales for the full year 2015, only 4 percent forecast losses in sales. The BITKOM index – a mood indicator for the German IT sector – remains unchanged over the last six months at an all-time high level of 72. One year ago the index was at 67. IT service providers and software vendors are the most optimistic while communications technology providers are the most skeptical.

While general business mood indicators such as the IFO-index have shown some declining confidence for the German economy as a whole in 2014, indicators for the information technology sector remain high. This illustrates a common trend: Faced with a less economic outlook, enterprises in Germany invested more in software and IT technology to achieve productivity gains. New trends like Industry 4.0 fuel this trend even more.

One of the reasons for the good mood is the favorable trend seen in the second half of 2014: about three-quarters of businesses (74 percent) could register sales increases between July and December, 12 percent reported declines.

Another interesting result of the survey is the fact that 94 percent of the companies questioned are satisfied or very satisfied with the domestic demand in Germany.

„This is also a chance for foreign providers to enter the German IT market or to establish new partnerships. The mood on the market is good and there is a high demand for IT services and products“, says Bernd Hoeck, managing partner of the go-to-market think tank bloodsugarmagic. „CeBIT is the perfect place to get to know companies and explore strategies of cooperation.“

bloodsugarmagic will also be at the CeBIT and can help bringing together potential partners. Contact us, if you are interested in entering the German market and would like to meet in Hannover. We provide various go-to-market and market entry services for ISVs, hardware vendors, IT services providers or near-/offshoring providers and have a long track record in positioning, influencer marketing, channel building and lead generation in Germany.

German IT Companies Confident for 2014

Especially German Software Companies are confident for 2014 just before CeBIT trade fair. For companies looking to enter the German IT market, timing could not be better.

German IT Companies Confident for 2014

German IT Sector Confident For 2014

Villingen-Schwenningen (D) / Boston (USA), February 21th 2014 – Go-to-market think tank bloodsugarmagic today comments on recent market sentiment figures for German IT sector. Mood and confidence in the German IT industry are close to their all-time high just before CeBIT. This emerges from the current economic survey of the high-tech association BITKOM, the Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications, and New Media. BITKOM represents more than 2,100 IT companies in Germany and conducts a survey twice a year among German IT companies. The BITKOM-Index is calculated from the balance of the revenue expectations for the current quarter.

The index now increased significantly from 55 to 67 points, which is close to its all-time high of 72 in 2011. „The IT industry is much more optimistic than the overall economy,“ said BITKOM president Prof. Dieter Kempf on January 28 at the press conference for „CeBIT Preview“ in Hannover.

In particular, the small and midsize IT companies are very confident for the coming months. Eight out of ten medium-sized IT companies expect that sales in the first half year increase , 10 percent expect flat revenues. „The mood in the IT industry is extremely good – and in the small and midsize IT companies, it is even a bit better. These are best signs for the CeBIT, which starts in a few weeks, „said BITKOM vice president Ulrich Dietz. „The small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the high-tech industry. The midsize companies create jobs, growth, and innovation. „

„For companies looking to enter the German IT market, timing could not be better,“ said Bernd Hoeck, managing partner of the go-to-market think tank bloodsugarmagic. „German IT companies are on the move and customers are investing into IT to increase their efficiency. Now is a good time to engage in new partnerships and to develop a sales channel for the German-speaking market.“
