Augsburg, June 14, 2018 – At Intersolar 2018 in Munich, meteocontrol GmbH will demonstrate just how far the monitoring and control of photovoltaic systems and solar parks have come. In this work, the world“s leading provider of independent monitoring systems has added a wide range of new features and the innovative power plant controller blue“Log X-Control to its solution. The stars of the company“s exhibition booth will be the data logger blue“Log X series and the monitoring and operation management platform VCOM. Visitors to the trade fair will also learn about the innovative methods that meteocontrol intends to use in the future to further optimize fault alarms with the help of data analytics. meteocontrol will present its latest innovations at Booth 251 in Hall B2.

VCOM: systematically uncovering yield losses
About 45,000 PV systems around the globe with a total power output of more than 13 GWp are currently being monitored in the VCOM portal. meteocontrol is writing a new chapter in this success story by introducing a wide range of upgrades. The performance ratio and system availability can be parameterized so that operation managers can easily display contractually regulated formulas. As a way of quickly identifying small yield losses, meteocontrol has developed the actual/rated performance graphic and a heat map for string currents. Fully automated reporting has been made even simpler as well: Clearly structured portfolio reports comprehensively inform investors and stakeholders about the performance of their systems and portfolios. meteocontrol“s newly developed VCOM monitoring app for visualizations on mobile and devices also now includes solar power forecasts and performance values.

With its major release for 2018, meteocontrol has made the blue“Log X series that has proved itself for three years more innovative and future-proof – while maintaining its high quality, performance and IT security. New functionalities provide a high level of transparency for measurement data and communications, including minute values and the recording of the communication quality between blue“Log and inverters, sensors and meters. Alarm management now includes parameters like sunrise and sunset in addition to offering efficient filter functions. „We also focused our enhancement efforts on smooth maintenance,“ said Martin Schneider, the Managing Director of meteocontrol. „This includes a lean firmware update, the simple add-on installation of driver packages, SD card replacement in case of a device defect and a configuration backup. And our individualized license model will ensure more cost efficiency.“

Plant control: blue“Log X-Control with integrated VPN client
With the X-Control – the heart of meteocontrol“s park controller – meteocontrol has developed an intelligent, ground-breaking solution. The new transparent controller core makes it possible to include the control functions in network simulation models. The X-Control also ensures that the continuously rising demands of energy providers can be met. Other enhancements assist solar trader activities that have proved effective in Germany for three years now: The integrated VPN client automatically establishes a connection to the solar trader in the blue“Log, without using an additional VPN router. Setup and the function test can be done much faster and easier. „With the help of X-Control, operators are prepared in the best-possible way for the European revision of the network codes and related changes to Germany“s medium- and high-voltage directives,“ Schneider said. „They can also work efficiently and cost effectively.“

Alarm management 2.0: heading into the future with data analytics
To further improve monitoring in the VCOM portal, meteocontrol plans to add an assistant to VCOM in the next step. At the meteocontrol booth, trade fair visitors will learn about how data analytics can help detect errors more quickly, report causes more precisely and recognize future error patterns – all in the name of „Alarming 2.0.“ „This works best in cooperation with the operation manager,“ Martin Schneider said. „User feedback is a key component for the learning system and can be integrated easily. Augsburg/Chicago, April 19, 2018 – meteocontrol North America, a subsidiary of meteocontrol GmbH in Germany, and viasys Intelligent Video GmbH are set to revolutionize solar monitoring in the United States PV market by entering into a long-term partnership. The aim of the collaboration is to offer PV-system operators a turn-key monitoring solution at a great value and provide North American customers with professional technical support.

Consolidating the systems will result in cost savings for customers because video surveillance can be integrated into meteocontrol“s monitoring portal without the need for any additional infrastructure in solar farms, since the systems can share the same network components, cabling and control cabinet.

Interlocking the viasys and meteocontrol systems will simplify the technical operation management of solar parks and make them even more secure. When the viasys security system is integrated into an operation manager“s portal view, for example, they will be able to see what is happening near the system at any time and track it with precision all the way up to the access control. The meteocontrol monitoring portal signals the operating status in the status message and provides information as to whether the security system is active.

„There are also other developments in the pipeline,“ adds Moran. „The operation manager should be able to receive the alarm messages directly in the ticket system, log them there and create the report for the investor. The messages will no longer need to be processed separately from monitoring in the security control room. We also want to set up an O&M camera-based „Awareness System“ designed to provide operation managers with the required view of the system on site without the need to invest in an extensive and complete perimeter security system.“

The latest evaluation shows that solar-energy production in Germany increased only very slightly over the last three years and was less than the 2.5 gigawatts per year needed to achieve the country’s climate targets. Although fed-in energy reached a record level last year, maximum feed-in fell from 72.5 percent to 72 percent. One reason for this was bad weather during periods when the maximum solar-energy yield was to be expected from a meteorological point of view. Other reasons include aging PV systems with reduced efficiency and the feed-in management of grid operators. With precise grid predictions and highly accurate live online feed in, down-regulation can be largely avoided and solar systems are only rarely affected by this. Augsburg, 12/07/2016 – meteocontrol GmbH, a PV service provider headquartered in Augsburg, delivers plant owners and operators an efficient total package for the rapid, cost-efficient upgrade of the monitoring units in their PV systems. The company has provided proof of its expertise once again at the 3 MW solar park „Abuzaderas“ operated by Tauber-Solar in southeastern Spain: it took just three-quarters of a day to replace the failure-prone monitoring solution at the park with the high-performance system made by meteocontrol.

In light of the old system“s very unstable data communications and an increasing number of failures in the bus system, Tauber-Solar decided to retrofit the monitoring system used by the „Abuzaderas“ PV system as quickly as possible and meteocontrol received the order.

Rapid tempo in Retrofitting

It took less than one day to complete the work at the Abuzaderas solar energy park. „One reason for our speed is definitely the modular and scalable technology we use in our products,“ said Martin Schneider, Managing Director of meteocontrol. „We can integrate existing data loggers into the current IT environment without a lot of extra work and merge the data in the monitoring portal into a complete system again.“ The new solution includes meteocontrol“s high-performance data loggers in conjunction with the company’s remote monitoring platform.

The monitoring system enables PV systems to be operated easily, reliably and cost-efficiently on a uniform Internet platform. Extensive analysis and alarm functions provide operators with a reliable tool that they can use to secure long-term earnings. The retrofit benefited from another plus as well: meteocontrol“s experts conducted the engineering for the project in advance at the company’s base in Augsburg and were able to provide the right accessories – such as the RS485 hub – on-site in Spain. „The experts from meteocontrol convinced us with their experience and their extensive, competent consulting,“ said Martin Schmitt, Managing Director of the Tauber-Solar service center. „They ensured the fast, safe installation of a complete solution that is both economical and user-friendly.“ Because integration into the meteocontrol system turned out to be so easy, Tauber-Solar is planning to carry out similar upgrades of other PV systems.

Consol implementiert Open Source Monitoring-System bei Bittner+Krull

OMD (Open Monitoring Distribution) sorgt für Überwachung von Smart-Metering-Plattform, Sicherung des Anwendungsbetriebs und Früherkennung von Ressourcen-Engpässen

München, 8. Oktober 2013 — Die Consol Consulting & Solutions Software GmbH ( www.consol.de ) hat bei Bittner+Krull ( www.bittner-krull.de ), einem der größten Anbieter von intelligenten IT-gestützten Zähler-Ablesesystemen, ein Monitoring-System auf Basis von OMD (Open Monitoring Distribution) eingeführt und implementiert. Mit der neuen Monitoring-Komplettlösung überwacht Bittner+Krull nun seine gesamte Smart-Metering-Plattform, die Verbraucher und Energieversorger verbindet. Über die Plattform lassen sich Zähl- und Messdaten in Echtzeit erfassen und dem ERP-System des Energieversorgers für Abrechnung und Kundenkommunikation zur Verfügung stellen. Dank OMD kann der Anbieter von Systemlösungen für mobiles Workforce Management, Fernauslesung und Smart Metering nun die hohen Anforderungen an die Verfügbarkeit der Plattform und den Betrieb der Anwendungen sicherstellen sowie Ressourcen-Engpässe frühzeitig erkennen.

Consol hat bei der Auswahl der Monitoring-Lösung beraten, das Design dazu entwickelt, die Plugins vorgeschlagen und die gesamte Lösung bei Bittner+Krull eingeführt, konfiguriert und an die Mitarbeiter vor Ort übergeben. Zum Einsatz kommt OMD mit Nagios als Core sowie dem von Consol entwickelten Webinterface Thruk. Mit dem Monitoring-Projekt weitet Bittner+Krull die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Münchener IT-Full-Service-Anbieter aus, der bereits im Rahmen eines Bittner+Krull-Projekts die Service-orientierte Architektur für eine Smart-Metering-Plattform entwickelt hatte. Die Umsetzung von der Installation bis zur Inbetriebnahme dauerte nur neun Tage.

„Consol konnte uns schnell von den Vorteilen von OMD überzeugen“, erläutert Mario Mesic, Projektleiter Hosting bei Bittner+Krull, die Entscheidung. „Denn mit OMD als Monitoring-Plattform lassen sich IT-Systeme einfach und zentral überwachen – auch standortübergreifend, ohne großen Installationsaufwand und dank Open Source auch ohne Softwarekosten. Für uns die geeignete Wahl, unsere bis dahin vereinzelten Monitoring-Komponenten durch ein übergreifendes Gesamtsystem abzulösen. Wir kannten Consol bereits aus der Zusammenarbeit im Rahmen eines großen Smart-Metering-Projekts und wussten, dass der IT-Dienstleister hochkarätige Referenzen bei Monitoring-Projekten vorzuweisen hat und wir uns auf ihn verlassen können. Wie schon damals hat Consol das Projekt mit höchster Präzision, fachlichem Know-how und in kürzester Zeit für uns umgesetzt.“

OMD – Monitoring der offenen Art:

OMD ist eine umfangreiche „Out-of-the-Box“-Monitoring-Installation, die die Cores Nagios, Shinken und Icinga sowie die nützlichsten Add-ons zu einem aufeinander abgestimmten Komplettpaket bündelt. Ein innovatives Site-Konzept erlaubt den Parallelbetrieb mehrerer vollwertiger Installationen auf nur einem Server. Das spart Zeit und nutzt Ressourcen optimal aus. Jede Site arbeitet wie ein separater Nagios-Server und erlaubt z.B. Mandantentrennung auf Instanz- anstatt bisher nur auf Benutzerebene. OMD-Updates berücksichtigen immer das Zusammenspiel aller Komponenten. Auf ein und demselben Server können mehrere OMD-Versionen parallel installiert sein. Der Administrator bestimmt dabei, welche Site auf welche Version aktualisiert werden soll. Der Aufwand zur Aktualisierung einer kompletten Nagios-Installation beschränkt sich mit OMD also auf ein Minimum. Grundsätzlich lässt sich alles überwachen, was innerhalb einer IT-Landschaft vorhanden ist. Bei Bittner+Krull beispielsweise liefert OMD stets einen aktuellen Überblick über die bereits verbrauchten sowie noch verfügbaren Ressourcen der Hosting-Landschaft, z.B. Speicherplatz, CPU/RAM-Leistung oder verfügbare Netzwerk-Bandbreite. Insgesamt überwacht Bittner+Krull ca. 40 Komponenten, darunter auch ein XEN-Cluster mit mehreren Windows Servern. Für die Datenbanküberwachung kommt das Plugin „check_oracle_health“, für die Applikationsüberwachung das Plugin „check_logfiles“ zum Einsatz. Beide Plugins wurden von Gerhard Laußer, Monitoring-Spezialist bei Consol, entwickelt. Fehler oder Ausfälle von Hosts und Applikationen werden von Nagios per E-Mail gemeldet und zusätzlich in der Weboberfläche „Thruk“ angezeigt, sodass der zuständige Administrator sofort reagieren kann. Das Add-On „Mod-Gearman“ schafft zudem die Option, zukünftig auch entfernte Standorte einzubinden.
