They benefit from development programs that go far beyond dual vocational training: such as the Apprentice Forum, which takes place every six months and enables cross-departmental learning and discussion. Another crucial aspect that trainers also take advantage of continuing education courses.

IT specialist training in the group
Additionally, SKIDATA participates in funding programs such as ITSalzburg//study.work.support available for information technology and system management students at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. As part of this program, students are awarded an internship at SKIDATA; two students are currently doing their internship with us. Also includes the program contribution for tuition fee and housing costs. But the great thing about the program is that it allows students to combine their studies and work.

SKIDATA Innovathon: exploring digital trends

Employees and students develop new solutions for IT & SKIDATA technology

SKIDATA Innovathon: exploring digital trends

SKIDATA Innovathon: exploring digital trends

It´s that time again – namely, for the next round of the SKIDATA Innovathon. Experienced specialists, creative outside-the-box thinkers and inspiring newcomers will develop practical applications for SKIDATA´s digital future as part of the third SKIDATA Innovathon taking place from November 8-10, 2017. Anything goes at this event – anything except conventional ideas, that is. From big data to virtual reality or artificial intelligence: removed from everyday work, more than ten international teams from all divisions will work on fresh, new concepts. Because together we create the best ideas.

„At SKIDATA, we have employees with many creative ideas and a strong pioneering spirit. With the Innovathon, we want to give them the chance to develop and utilize this power of innovation in an inspiring think tank atmosphere and in interdisciplinary teams“, explains Wolfgang Titze, Head of Software Development in Salzburg and co-organizer of the SKIDATA Innovathon. In addition to being a think tank for the company, however, this event has a social component which is also very valuable. Working together on an idea for days unites us.

Innovation is a result of professional teamwork

This is the third time the Innovathon has taken place and it has already established itself as an internal forum for innovation. Each year the number of participants has grown. Participants all have a knack for technology and plenty of unconventional ideas in their mind, and work in teams of three or four. With an open mind and enthusiasm for new things, they develop exciting concepts that no one has thought of before, making the teams grow closer together. „The best part of the Innovathon is that it harnesses the impressive knowledge and inventive spirit of SKIDATA team members to bring ideas to life and help shape the future of the company“, says Jeff, participant from the USA at this year´s SKIDATA Innovathon.

Research & development: inventiveness at SKIDATA

At SKIDATA, innovation is practically in our blood. Günther Walcher started the operative business in 1977 with the first printed ski ticket. What began as an idea 40 years ago has since developed into an internationally successful digital solution provider in access and visitor management. Still today, it is our employees´ pioneering spirit that drives the development of our IT business solutions forward. The result? SKIDATA has more than 100 patent families that have been developed and filed by the approximately 60 inventors in the SKIDATA team. Continuous research and development, a good work atmosphere that creates freedom for innovation and events such as the SKIDATA Innovathon make it possible. Our employees´ power of innovation is central to SKIDATA and new patent ideas are awarded once a year as part of a recognition event by the Executive Board.

International careers at SKIDATA

Australia, America, Europe – career paths at SKIDATA start in Salzburg and lead to all four corners of the world

International careers at SKIDATA

International careers at SKIDATA

SKIDATA, the global leader for access solutions, is established in more than 100 countries with subsidiaries and partners. It is an international group that spreads its welcoming corporate culture from Salzburg throughout the world thanks to the many SKIDATA employees who have started their international career in Grödig, Austria. „Here at SKIDATA, it is very important to us that our employees are able to fully realize their own potential. There are many different career paths available at an international company – paths that many times lead staff to new countries,“ says Belkis, Vice President of Human Resources.

That´s also true for Rafaela, Mario and Maria, all of whom work in Finance (Accounting and Controlling) at SKIDATA. Rafaela took the plunge and has taken on a new challenge on the other side of the globe: the former Controlling Director at the SKIDATA headquarters is now Commercial Manager in Australia.

From Marketing & Sales in Vienna to Finance Director in California in no time

SKIDATA is a dynamic company that is constantly growing. This means employees have the chance to develop and have a change of scenery, too. Many members of the company seize the opportunity to take over new responsibilities in existing positions or move to another department. Take Mario, for example, who works for SKIDATA in America. After working in Marketing & Sales and Group Controlling, Mario fulfilled a dream of his thanks to SKIDATA. „Even while I was studying in Vienna, I dreamt about having an international career. After earning my Master´s, I set a goal for myself: I wanted to start my international career as a manager abroad as quickly as possible. After two weeks at the company I knew that SKIDATA is really special. I had the chance to develop myself within the company and my flexibility helped me quickly transition to a career abroad.“ Today Mario is Finance Director in California.

Exchanging knowledge between Bologna and Grödig

Maria´s career path at SKIDATA led her to Italy. She started working as a controller in the Group Controlling team in 2010, and in March 2014, she transferred to the controlling department of our Italian subsidiary in Bologna. After about a year, she became Finance Manager there. This exchange of knowledge has enriched both SKIDATA locations and, in return, Maria is also richer for the experience abroad. „I am very grateful that I can pass on my knowledge in another country and still work closely with SKIDATA in Austria. This way I don´t lose contact with my home,“ explains Maria.

SKIDATA is a springboard for your career

SKIDATA is currently looking for a number-crunching expert to head up accounting for the Austrian SKIDATA entities: https://www.skidata.com/en/corporate/jobs-careers/job-vacancies-at-skidata/job-details/?tx_dmmjobcontrol_pi1%5Bjob_uid%5D=1832 . The headquarters in Grödig is also SKIDATA´s financial hub where everything comes together. If you love working with numbers and enjoy having contacts all over the world, you have come to the right place. Start your career with SKIDATA – and maybe one day it will take you around the globe!

Career events with SKIDATA in autumn 2017

Meet SKIDATA at the career events in autumn

Career events are a great opportunity for young professionals and people re-entering the workforce to meet and talk to potential employers. Ultimately, there is more to every applicant and every company than meets the eye. For this reason, SKIDATA travels through Austria to give graduates and high potentials a closer look at the company.

It doesn“t do anyone justice to look at a person or a company only on paper. A real meeting is often much more telling than a job application or brochure. Career fairs are therefore an excellent opportunity for both sides that can open doors and make decisions easier. SKIDATA is again proud to participate in numerous job fairs and career events in Austria in the fall of 2017 to meet enthusiastic recruits and share information about careers at SKIDATA.

SKIDATA boasts a wide range of departments including finance, sales and communications. At the same time, the global leader in access and visitor management also has many career opportunities in IT and technology. No matter if you are in software or hardware development, mechatronics, electronics, accounting or controlling – SKIDATA offers exciting possibilities with international perspectives in every area. Thanks to continued growth, SKIDATA hires new employees in Austria and around the globe every year.
„At career events, we seize the opportunity to network and introduce our company and work at SKIDATA. Our corporate culture is best conveyed through personal discussions,“ says Barbara, recruiting specialist at SKIDATA. „After all, it has to work for both sides, ideally for a long time.“

SKIDATA career events in fall 2017
Starting in October, SKIDATA will once again head on their tour of universities, career fairs and informational career events. The „Karriereforum Lehre“ („Apprenticeship Career Forum“) took place in Salzburg this September and the following events are coming up quickly:

40 years of SKIDATA: ceremony for the company´s anniversary

From start-up to global player thanks to the power of innovation and SKIDATA staff´s dedication

40 years of SKIDATA: ceremony for the company´s anniversary

40 years of SKIDATA: ceremony for the company´s anniversary

SKIDATA celebrated its 40th anniversary on September 15, 2017. Numerous guests, including guests of honor Günther Walcher (founder of SKIDATA) and Governor of Salzburg Dr. Wilfried Haslauer, attended the anniversary party to celebrate this global leader in access management and visitor management. The event was marked with a celebration and the opening of the SKIDATA World of Experience at the SKIDATA headquarters in Grödig near Salzburg, Austria. SKIDATA has transformed from a Salzburg-based start-up to a growing global player with around 1,350 staff around the world. „It is no coincidence that we continue to grow successfully; rather, it is largely the result of the power of innovation and dedication of our team,“ explained Hugo Rohner, CEO of SKIDATA AG.

From airports to soccer stadiums and 80% of the world´s ski resorts: around the globe, operators rely on the technology, expertise and quality they get from SKIDATA. The company´s success story began 40 years ago. In 1977, SKIDATA founder Günther Walcher developed the first printed ski ticket and first electronic register – milestones in the history of mountain sports regions. The former start-up has grown into a global player and international leader in the field of access and visitor management.

SKIDATA: responsible management and long-standing staff loyalty
SKIDATA´s development was also recognized by Governor of Salzburg Dr. Wilfried Haslauer: „SKIDATA is an innovative model company that, in Salzburg alone, employs 400 staff and has hired 60 new employees in the last year. The company´s good and responsible management is reflected, among other things, by an above-average employee retention rate. The company is also especially active in the training of apprentices.“ On behalf of the State of Salzburg, Dr. Haslauer congratulated the company on its anniversary and impressive success story.

Johann Präauer has been with SKIDATA for 35 years and is one of many examples of the company´s above-average employee retention rate. „I have had so many opportunities to grow at SKIDATA. Even after such a long time, I still get so many exciting perspectives and I think it is just great. I started as a field service technician and am currently in the electronic development department. I especially appreciate the friendly teamwork at the company, the fast decision paths and the flexible working hours. All of this contributes to why I have enjoyed working at SKIDATA for 35 years,“ says Johann, SKIDATA employee since 1982.

Innovation & expansion mean job creation at SKIDATA
Over the past four decades, additional business units, innovative solutions and dedicated employees have joined the company. The portfolio has grown to include RFID chips for contactless entry, parking management, and solutions for stadiums, amusement parks and exhibition centers. Over the years, the distribution network has also grown. Today, SKIDATA is represented by 26 subsidiaries, five joint ventures and more than 10,000 installations in over 100 countries. Around the world, approximately 1,350 employees play a role in the company´s success. A large network around the globe means that SKIDATA offers attractive national and international career and development paths. SKIDATA is always looking for new talented team members for all departments. Plenty of interesting jobs are available in an international setting. Job vacancies are frequently posted on https://www.skidata.com/en/corporate/jobs-careers/

Opening of the SKIDATA World of Experience: a digital showroom for customers and applicants
Another highlight of the anniversary celebration was the opening of the 450m2 World of Experience. This digital showroom was officially opened by Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer. „The SKIDATA World of Experience gives our customers a great look at where SKIDATA is now, and where it is headed for the future. The showroom brings together the analogue and digital worlds of SKIDATA solutions in an impressive way,“ explained Hugo Rohner on the inaugural tour with guests from politics and business.

How does one manage the admission of 50,000 visitors into a stadium? What goes on in a control center that monitors hundreds of parking garages? Customers can experience all of this and more up-close in the showroom. The SKIDATA World of Experience also gives applicants and students the opportunity to learn more about the company and its innovative products on a tour.

40 years of SKIDATA: help shape the digital future

SKIDATA celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Interalpin 2017, the world´s leading trade fair for alpine technologies held in Innsbruck from April 26-28. SKIDATA showed its customers how ski resorts can optimally use the innovative software solutions from this Salzburg company for their commercial success. With the motto „Driving Your Digital Future“, visitors were treated to a look into the digital age and the company presented how ski areas can profit from customer data, for example.

40 years of SKIDATA – a small eternity in the rapidly-moving world of digital technologies. From its start in 1977 to a global company in 2017, SKIDATA has significantly changed access management over the past 40 years. With inventions that have revolutionized technology and organization. With concepts that have become standards. With solutions that have redefined access management for people and vehicles. „SKIDATA has always given itself the goal of helping shape the future with innovative solutions. With new and intuitive software, however, we showed at this year´s technology fair that after 40 years SKIDATA is still setting trends and providing future-oriented solutions for the market,“ explains Richard Kobler, Mountain Product Manager at SKIDATA.

Innovative software from SKIDATA: driving smart data, simplicity & connectivity

SKIDATA´s new software solutions open many opportunities – one of which is the optimal use of business data. With „sweb.Analyze Mountain“ operators analyze the data for monitoring and optimizing business processes in ski resorts. „Summit.Logic“ is user-friendly management software for a 360° view of ski resorts which enables the perfect integration of systems from other companies by means of open and modular interfaces. „Efficient management of ski resorts is achieved with „Summit.Logic“. Thanks to the two web-based, intuitive user interfaces, SKIDATA customers will always have an overview of everything in the future,“ says Product Manager Kobler, confident of the new software solutions.

Help shape the future at SKIDATA – international job openings

A 40-year company anniversary is very special in these fast-paced times and, above all, is thanks to the dedicated employees at SKIDATA. The development of cutting-edge software and hardware at this world market leader for access solutions and visitor management requires the brightest minds and unconventional thinkers with endurance and curiosity, who are always looking for new and even better solutions. Looking for a paid IT degree with a job offer at SKIDATA?

Looking for a paid IT degree with a job offer at SKIDATA? (Source: Salzburg University of Applied Sciences)

How can you get young people excited about studying IT? What can you do to counteract the acute deficit of IT specialists in Austria? And how can you best support IT students to get started in their career? These and many other questions were asked by the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and the Information Technology & System Management booster club with their many renowned Salzburg-based IT companies. And the answers came in the form of an innovative study package: ITSalzburg//study.work.support – a sponsored course of study at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences including a guaranteed part-time position.

„Exploring new horizons is a part of everyday life at SKIDATA and we are very interested in training qualified and motivated IT and software talents in-house. So for us it was clear that we – as an innovative Salzburg IT company – would be a part of this pilot project,“ says Frank, Senior Vice President of R&D at SKIDATA, about this new study package. This combination of paid part-time work and sponsored IT education program aims to motivate more qualified young people to study Information Technology & System Management at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences.

IT specialist training for Salzburg

The goal of this program is to strengthen Salzburg as an IT hub. Here’s how this new IT study package creates the ideal conditions for future IT students in Salzburg: covered tuition costs, rent subsidies, a paid part-time position in one of the IT companies that belong to the booster club and valuable contacts in Salzburg’s IT world. These are the perfect conditions to master your job and studies and to immediately apply the things you have learned. With the ITSalzburg//study.work.support pilot project, future IT experts will be integrated into Salzburg’s IT working world from the time they start their IT studies.

Attractive sponsorships for students with part-time work at SKIDATA

As part of this IT study package, approximately 20 first-semester students on the full-time Information Technology & System Management Bachelor course at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences receive financial and moral support. After being accepted onto their program, these future IT students can apply for a part-time job at participating IT companies such as SKIDATA. Prospective applicants should possess previous technical knowledge and enthusiasm for IT.

Anyone interested in studying IT and being a part of the SKIDATA team can find more information and a link to the application form by visiting https://www.skidata.com/en/corporate/jobs-careers/internships-for-students/

SKIDATA – cooperations with universities and universities of applied sciences

Highly-qualified and dedicated staff is the foundation of any company. SKIDATA has traditionally maintained close cooperation with universities. Many of today’s IT experts gained their first experience at SKIDATA. Thanks to their time at a successful IT company, students get valuable professional knowledge for both their studies and their career. At the same time, it is important for SKIDATA that these future IT experts actively participate in the company with their knowledge, skills and personality.

SKIDATA surprises its apprentices with training on a level playing field and gives young professionals the chance not only to put their skills to use from the very beginning, but to prove them as well: just as they did at the EuroSkills 2016 vocational skills competition in Gothenburg, Sweden, for example.

SKIDATA apprentice Pascal – state champion in electronics – proudly represented the Austrian team at EuroSkills 2016 in December. With 14 medals, this Austrian rookie racked up his third win in a row at the competition. „It was a great experience to take part in this competition among 500 apprentices from all over Europe and to meet other young people who are pursuing their profession with as much passion as I am,“ said Pascal, who was impressed by the event.

Apprenticeships at SKIDATA: entry to a career with a passion

It is this passion for their career that SKIDATA wants to give all apprentices. Motivation and recognition, personal freedom and career opportunities, as well as respectful teamwork characterize career training at SKIDATA. This is a basis that strengthens the joy of learning and passion for their vocation. At the moment, around 20 trainees are being trained in seven various skilled trades: electronics, media design, mechatronics, information technologies technician, information technologies computer specialist, office administration and operating logistics clerk.

Apprenticeships with added value: SKIDATA training for apprentices and trainers

At SKIDATA trainees receive excellent professional training in which all apprentices support each other. More senior apprentices pass on their knowledge to junior apprentices. In addition to dual vocational training, there is in-company training in personal development for apprentices, as well as for trainers. Because in the world of work, you need more than just your technical knowledge. For this reason, SKIDATA apprentice and trainer development courses teach soft skills in the areas of communication, time management and motivation.
