First Cologne ecological built solid wooden house to be assembled this week
The well known principles of wooden house construction geting nowadays a new dimension, the wood-only-design. The first reference in the Cologne area will be built at the Sürther Feld near Rodenkirchen, week 22. February 2017. By plans of the Architect Stephan Becker, the carpenter Gerd Ribbeck is going to build the three level family house with the principle to use only wood for construction with the NUR-HOLZ patend design. Walls, ceilings and roof timbers are made of pure wood elements. Total sustainability, well beeing and health of the residents are the main targets of this design. The prefabricated wooden wall elements without glue or steel fasteners are completely CO2-neutral and fullfilling the „cradle-to-cradle“ requirement, facilitating also the disposal Furthermore inhouse modern equipement and appliances are in use resulting in low energy consumtion and low CO2-emissions.
An other by the same NUR-HOLZ design constructed office building in the Netherlands got the world wide award on best environmental and climate protection, the highest BREEAM Cerificate. This certifcate is the most widely used certification system for sustainable construction.
NUR-HOLZ – Benefits for residents
The Cologne builders‘ family places high demands on the ecological construction of their future home. The ultimate aim is the well being and healthy environment. But also economic facts are as important as the ecological quality of materials. As a result, many components as possible are screwed with wooden screws instead of the usual steel screws. The wooden floor is clamped and floated, the wooden facade, protecting against weather impact, has to be screwed with very special small steel screws.
Electricity is generated with a photovoltaic system on the roof, solar collectors produce warm water. Geothermal heat is used by a heat pump to operate the underfloor heating system, and a further positive saving effect is generated by a heat recovery system.
NUR-HOLZ – Use of ecological material
As thermal insulation, Gerd Ribbeck is using soft wood fiber boards. Similar to the wall elements, this material is natural and environmental friendly. Both elements together create a feel-good climate inside the house in summer and winter at any weather conditions, because wood has an exceptional balanced behavior on both needed physical requirements, the heat insulation and the heat storage. Furthermore, noise is absorbed by wooden walls and provides a very good sound protection. On the inhouse walls clay plaster is used. This natural material serves as heat storage mass and moisturizing element and is acting together with the wooden walls and this has also a positive influence on the room climate.
NUR-HOLZ – Constructed in no time
The erection of the prefabricated building shell starts now and will take one week only. Afterwards the interior construction will start immediately. These results in using 50% less construction time of the house compared to standard designs. „In other regions of Germany, this type of construction has already been more and more enforced“, Gerd Ribbeck says. The solid wood construction system “ NUR-HOLZ“ is so innovative that it received the Bavarian State Prize in 2013.
According to the carpenter, the house in Cologne will be the start for even more buildings in this ecological, energy-efficient solid wood house construction not only in North Rhine-Westphalia area but also on the international markets, and also. at public areas such as kindergardens, hospitals, schools and office buildings.
