40 years of SKIDATA: ceremony for the company´s anniversary

SKIDATA celebrated its 40th anniversary on September 15, 2017. Numerous guests, including guests of honor Günther Walcher (founder of SKIDATA) and Governor of Salzburg Dr. Wilfried Haslauer, attended the anniversary party to celebrate this global leader in access management and visitor management. The event was marked with a celebration and the opening of the SKIDATA World of Experience at the SKIDATA headquarters in Grödig near Salzburg, Austria. SKIDATA has transformed from a Salzburg-based start-up to a growing global player with around 1,350 staff around the world. „It is no coincidence that we continue to grow successfully; rather, it is largely the result of the power of innovation and dedication of our team,“ explained Hugo Rohner, CEO of SKIDATA AG.

From airports to soccer stadiums and 80% of the world´s ski resorts: around the globe, operators rely on the technology, expertise and quality they get from SKIDATA. The company´s success story began 40 years ago. In 1977, SKIDATA founder Günther Walcher developed the first printed ski ticket and first electronic register – milestones in the history of mountain sports regions. The former start-up has grown into a global player and international leader in the field of access and visitor management.

SKIDATA: responsible management and long-standing staff loyalty
SKIDATA´s development was also recognized by Governor of Salzburg Dr. Wilfried Haslauer: „SKIDATA is an innovative model company that, in Salzburg alone, employs 400 staff and has hired 60 new employees in the last year. The company´s good and responsible management is reflected, among other things, by an above-average employee retention rate. The company is also especially active in the training of apprentices.“ On behalf of the State of Salzburg, Dr. Haslauer congratulated the company on its anniversary and impressive success story.

Johann Präauer has been with SKIDATA for 35 years and is one of many examples of the company´s above-average employee retention rate. „I have had so many opportunities to grow at SKIDATA. Even after such a long time, I still get so many exciting perspectives and I think it is just great. I started as a field service technician and am currently in the electronic development department. I especially appreciate the friendly teamwork at the company, the fast decision paths and the flexible working hours. All of this contributes to why I have enjoyed working at SKIDATA for 35 years,“ says Johann, SKIDATA employee since 1982.

Opening of the SKIDATA World of Experience: a digital showroom for customers and applicants
Another highlight of the anniversary celebration was the opening of the 450m2 World of Experience. This digital showroom was officially opened by Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer. „The SKIDATA World of Experience gives our customers a great look at where SKIDATA is now, and where it is headed for the future. The showroom brings together the analogue and digital worlds of SKIDATA solutions in an impressive way,“ explained Hugo Rohner on the inaugural tour with guests from politics and business.

How does one manage the admission of 50,000 visitors into a stadium? What goes on in a control center that monitors hundreds of parking garages? Customers can experience all of this and more up-close in the showroom. The SKIDATA World of Experience also gives applicants and students the opportunity to learn more about the company and its innovative products on a tour.
