Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. (Foton) was founded on August 28, 1996. Headquartered in Beijing“s Changping district, Foton has registered assets of nearly500 milliondollars and employs approximately 40,000 staff worldwide. Foton is an established automotive industry leader in China. Research and Development facilities are located in China, Japan and Germany. In 2012, Foton achieved earnings of 50.867 billion RMB, and sold over 621,000 units, placing Foton as the top-selling commercial vehicle manufacturer in China.

Foton“s success can be attributed to its strong management team and its innovation, which is not limited to commercial vehicles. Foton manages products and services across six industries: Automobiles and New Energy Automobiles, Engineering Machinery, IT Services, New Energy Batteries, Logistics and Warehousing and Financial Services. Cummins and Foton

In March 2008, Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (BFCEC) was set up with a joint investment of 2.7 billion RMB and an annual production capacity of 400,000 units, establishing Foton as China“s largest engine manufacturer.

BFCEC produces ISF 3.8L and ISF 2.8L engines that meets or exceeds leading International emission standards. On June 9, 2009, BFCEC held a celebration in Beijing – „Global Engine, World Power“ – to mark the completion of the production of its first 400,000 engines.

Daimler and Foton

On January 29, 2009, in Berlin, Foton reached an agreement on commercial vehicle production with Germany“s Daimler AG. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attended the signing ceremony. The two parties agreed to establish a joint venture with a 50/50 Shareholder Agreement for the production of medium and heavy-duty trucks as well as the development associated technologies and services. The Foton-Daimler Joint Venture benefits the sale of Foton Auman series of trucks globally.

On February 18, 2012, a „Conference on the Establishment of Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd.“ was held in Beijing to celebrate the successful conclusion of negotiations between the two parties. The first meeting of the Board of Directors of the new Joint Venture took place at the same time.

Beijing Foton Daimler Automotive Co., Ltd. was established with a total investment of 9.95 billion RMB and a registered capital of 5.6 billion RMB, with Foton and Daimler each holding a 50% ownership.

Foton Daimler Automotive manufactures Foton“s Auman series of medium and heavy-duty trucks and Daimler-licensed 490hp Euro V Mercedes-Benz OM457 heavy-duty engines.

Foton Motor Company is not lacking in drive. The state-owned Chinese auto maker supplies domestic and select international markets with cars, light and heavy-duty trucks, and farm machinery under the brand names Auman, Aumark, Forland, MPX, Ollin, Shenzhou, and View. Foton builds its cars, trucks, and machinery from plants in Beijing, Guangdong, Hebei, Hunan, Liaoning, Shandong, and Tianjin. Although the company still makes most of its products for sale in China, it has expanded export operations to 90 countries including Algeria, Angola, Pakistan, and Ukraine, with plans to add India, Iran, and Russia to the list. State-owned Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company owns about 40% of Foton.
