San Ramon, CA, 14 March 2014 – Caleffi SpA, a leader in the field of hydrothermal components, has become a member of the EnOcean Alliance, one of the world“s fastest growing technical alliances for energy-efficient buildings. Along with the membership, the company launches its new smart heating control system WiCal that is based on the EnOcean energy harvesting wireless standard. Visitors of Mostra Convegno Expocomfort MCE 2014 (March 18 to 21, Fieramilano) can experience the innovative WiCal product line at Caleffi booth hall 7, stand A341-51 and C42-52.

Caleffi develops and produces components for heating, air-conditioning and sanitary systems, heat metering and specific components for renewable energy installations. The company, which has three manufacturing plants in Italy, offers its customers best-in-class solutions for more energy-efficient and resource-saving systems that combine high comfort levels with a future-proof investment.

Reliable wireless communication

The heating control WiCal fits perfectly into the EnOcean Alliance“s approach of creating innovative solutions for sustainable buildings. The product suite includes the central control unit 2101 series that allows managing the wireless heating radiator 2105 series. Both integrate EnOcean energy harvesting wireless technology, enabling intelligent wireless control of the heating for newly constructed or retrofit projects in the building sector. The product line allows to automatically adapt the heat to pre-defined set points and the users“ needs, thus saving valuable energy. Due to the wireless operation, the components can be easily integrated into a building automation system, creating more flexibility in system planning and implementation as well as cutting energy use.

Significant energy savings

The radio communication is based on the international wireless standard ISO/IEC 14543-3-10, which is optimized for ultra-low power and energy harvesting applications. In buildings, the radio communication offers high robustness and reliability at a maximum range of 30 meters. The use of EnOcean wireless technology enables to achieve savings of as much as 40 percent in energy and operating costs. Components based on this standard are already implemented in over 250,000 buildings worldwide. With its EnOcean-based WiCal system, Caleffi now contributes to the strong ecosystem of the EnOcean Alliance. Its more than 350 members offer today over 1,200 interoperable products.
