Sustainable innovation for the global sauna industry.

High energy efficiency in sauna use is now possible through the new invention of sauna manufacturer Bemberg.

Sustainable innovation for the global sauna industry.

Presentation of the new concept at the Interbad exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany 2014

The sauna manufacturer Bemberg from the German province of Baden-Württemberg, operating domestically and abroad, is producing saunas, sauna heating systems, infrared cabins and steam baths since 64 years. Already in the 60″s, the founder Paul Bemberg invented and developed highly energy efficient sauna heating systems which was quite remarkable during that time. Back then, the Bemberg back wall energetic heating system gained a lot of popularity and leaded to the further developed idea of a „free feeling wall and ceiling heating system“ in the 80″s. These inventions have led to space gain in the cabin, high efficiency and great climatic effects.
After the founder Paul Bemberg died at the age of 86 in 2008, the company was in hands of a former co-partner who was looking for a suitable replacement due to reasons of age. In 2012, the entrepreneurial family Wüllner bought all shares of the company under the executive Andreas Paul Wüllner, business manager, technician and impassionate inventor in engineering, technology and science.
Under the management of Wüllner, the Bemberg corporations group has invented a sustainable hybrid heating system that connects the sauna (as well as infrared cabins and steam baths) to the building“s heating system by means of intelligent processor controls. The more efficient the building“s heating is, the more efficiently the sauna can be used. Hence, for the use of a Finnish sauna up to 50% of energy can be taken from the building“s heating; for soft steam bath sauna or infrared even up to 90% can be saved. Solely the rest energy needed is produced through the electric sauna oven that can be seen more as an optical design element – the Bemberg hybrid power pack operates in the shadows of the sauna cabin. Additionally, through supplementary equipment there is also the option to return excess heating energy back to the building“s heating system in order to make the process even more sustainable.
As already known from the automobile industry or electric household appliances, energetic sustainability has become an obligatory act for producers and consumers. According to Wüllner, the Bemberg corporations group is preparing the international sauna market for the requirements of the near future. The hybrid system invention is registered for an international patent with 47 claims. Mastermind Wüllner knows that the sauna market is currently still in its infancy. At present, the lion“s share of sauna producers are only opting for design and are mostly inspired by optical effects of artificially produced furniture structural panels. On the contrary, Bemberg opts for massive solid wood in combination with genuine glass following the classic ideal of the traditional sauna culture. For its heating systems, Bemberg attaches high importance to modern sustainability in combination with appealing design ovens.
A number of patent claims of the hybrid system are planned to be provided to selected sauna producers in form of licensing. There will be a very sensitive selection among the candidates. Producers that voluntarily undergo controls of their sauna cabin construction (e.g. by means of RAL) have preference.
In the meanwhile, Bemberg is equipping the first hotel wellness facilities and private sauna customers with the hybrid system. If you would like to belong to these happy few, you should get into contact with Bemberg under www.bemberg.de or hybrid@bemberg.de.
